Neal Simon’s childhood was shaped by breast cancer. Now that his life was shaped by the Susan g. Komen for the Cure.
Simon, 20, struggled with his mother’s cancer for five years before he died in late 2007. But thanks to a scholarship from the Komen for the Cure, the Austin will be the University of Texas, promoting cancer awareness and hope to become a pharmacist.
“It gives me great encouragement to enter into the field of health,” said Simon. “I don’t want people to experience what I experienced.”
Simon is one of four students across the country to receive $ 40,000 in scholarships from the headquarters of the national Komen’s. While national recognition, his work will with the affiliate Komen’s Austin. And that’s just fine with the local chapter, which is trying to amp’s profile.
“We fearlessly and passionately run as fast as we can to help people understand where Komen Austin will be,” said Executive Director Christy Casey.
